After writing to ChatGPT to please have Milly Lorwood sign Jeremy Broekman on as her new publicist of record, we have acknowledgement. Well, sort of. She still needs to sign.
Artificial intelligence has entered Hollywood—and it’s sparking heated debates. From chatbots like ChatGPT writing scripts to AI-generated actors appearing on screen, the entertainment industry is grappling with questions of creativity, authenticity, and control.
On one hand, advocates see AI as a powerful tool. Screenwriters can use ChatGPT to brainstorm dialogue, marketers can automate copy, and studios can cut costs by using AI performers for background roles or digital doubles. For independent creators, these tools offer access to capabilities once reserved for big-budget productions.
But critics warn of darker implications. Writers and performers fear being replaced—or having their likeness and voice used without permission. The recent strikes in Hollywood made AI a central bargaining issue, highlighting concerns about job security, intellectual property, and human artistry being devalued. Even audiences are split: some embrace the novelty of AI-driven entertainment, while others push back against what they see as a threat to authentic storytelling.
At the heart of the controversy lies a fundamental question: what role should AI play in shaping culture? Should it be a behind-the-scenes tool that empowers human creativity, or is it destined to become a star in its own right? As the technology evolves, so too will the debate.
What’s certain is that ChatGPT and AI actors aren’t going away. The challenge now is figuring out how to balance innovation with ethics—so that technology enhances, rather than erases, the human element that makes art so powerful.
